History of Falke
It all started in 1895 with Franze Falke-Rohen, who founded his own knitting factory as a knitter. In 1902 his son Franz takes over the factory, and leads the factory through the First World War. In 1918, father and son took over a wool factory in Schammelberg, laying the foundations for the Falke Group as we know it today. In 1920 a new factory was established to install the machines needed for commercial sock knitting, this location still serves as the headquarters of the Falke Group today.
In the following years Falke continues to grow, as they gain more and more brand awareness, thanks to the quality of socks they produce. In 1960 they develop a line especially for women, which was temporarily shut down in 1985, due to a larger market share on the men's socks market. In 1990 Paul Falke and his cousin Franz-Peter Falke take over the management of the Falke Group.
Falke opens a number of large stores, including locations in Ascona (Switzerland), Zurich and Berlin (Germany), as a showcase for their brand.
Other brands and lines within the Falke group
In addition to the socks of which Falke has gained great brand awareness and trust, Falke is further expanding their focus to include active wear. In 2005 Falke named itself a full-range supplier of active wear for both underwear and clothing. In 2008 they also acquire the Burlington brand, which remains an independent sock brand within the Falke Group.
