Speedo
Speedo is the king of swimwear brands. Speedo not only has swimwear for competitive swimmers, in which many athletes have become Olympic champions, but also has a wide range of swimwear for the recreational swimmer enjoying hot summer days at the beach.
A brand with a rich history
Alexander Mac Rae (a young scotsman) is the founder of Speedo. In 1914 he opened his first factory in Sydney, which at that time, produced socks under the name "Fortitude". In 1928 the company began producing swimwear, and the name was changed to Speedo. The brand grew slowly, and became more and more innovative. In 1936, during the Olympics, they produced the first swimwear in which the chest was no longer covered, slowly leading way to development of swimming shorts.
Innovation in material
In 1970, Speedo was the first company to produce swimwear made from nylon and elastane (which is still the most popular fabric for making swimwear today). In addition to using innovative fabrics, Speedo advanced their designs further, allowing professional swimmers to swim faster in Speedo swimwear. In 1992 Speedo launched S2000, a fabric that provided 15% less resistance in the water. At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, 53% of the medals won were by swimmers wearing Speedo S2000. In 1994, speedo innovated again with Endurance, a fabric that is resistant to chlorine. Subsequently, in 1996, Speedo managed to repeat their 1992 success with Aquablade, a fabric that gives 8% less drag than S2000; 77% of all swimmers who won a medal that year were wearing Speedo Aquablade swimwear. It should be clear now that during this period, Speedo had manifested itself as the champion innovator in athletic swimwear.
leisure
When it comes to swimwear, Speedo is not strictly the athletes brand of choice. Through years of experience, Speedo has also brought swimwear to the market which has become popular with people who are less fanatic about swimming. Furthermore, people who swim lengths in the pool, or people that want to purchase a nice bathing suit / swimming trunks for a sunny day at the beach, also enjoy the benefits this brand has to offer. Speedo has a wide range of men's and women's swimwear for athletes and recreational swimmers. Speedo doesn't only develop functional swimwear, but focuses on a good fit as well. An example of this can be seen in their line of sculpture bathing suits for women featuring their "corrective effect". Not to go unnoticed, this brand of swimwear is extremely durable thanks to their development of "Endurance technology". This technique allows the swimwear resistant to chlorine, making it last longer and retain its colour.
